Memorial Day History
To many people the nation's thousands of combat veterans, memiral s day, which has a history of stretching back all the way to the Civil War, is an important reminder of those who died in the service of their country.
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.
Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan.
